The Story Behind
Mountain Hollow Farm Store & Studio
Our farm is on the historic Vancel Mill property. The mill is no longer standing, but the home, barn and store are. The store used to be an old country store that sold groceries, animal feed, gas, candy, pop, etc. It is rumored that Curt Vancel, who owned it in the 30s and 40s, made a million dollars out of this store. When we purchased the property, it was a run-down shed.
We’ve restored the old building and turned it into a unique farm store and fiber studio. We carry yarn, loose leaf tea, fine handcrafts, gourmet food mixes & goat’s milk soap.

Rib & Seed Stitch ScarfThis scarf can be knit with worsted weight or bulky yarn. It is an especially quick knit with bulky yarn. The 3x3 rib on each end adds a hint of flare to the richly textured seed stitch body. Slipping the first stitch of each row gives it a nice edge and prevents it from stretching out of shape. The scarf in the photo was made with bulky yarn and 45 stitches in the cast on. It is 7.5" x 66" and used 3 skeins of yarn (3.5 oz, 120 yard skeins).
