Batch Cooking To Save Time
People sometimes ask me how I do it all: run the farm and a business and have a life. One of the ways I managed to save time is by batch cooking. Often times Sundays are filled up with cooking and laundry, though I always seem to find time to relax and knit on Sunday as well.
This week I’m making a giant pot of chili. I will freeze it in smaller portions so that I have a quick meals to eat in the coming weeks. This really helps when unexpected things happen on the farm and I don’t have time to cook.

Sometimes I’ll make a giant pot roast and eat it all week or freeze it in smaller portions.
Other times I’ll roast a chicken and have a variety of chicken dishes during the week. I usually make a bone broth with the carcass and then make soup with it and some of the leftover chicken. My husband’s favorite soup is chicken corn soup, a recipe I learned from his mom. And of course, I save some meat for sandwiches.
Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are especially busy for me because the store is open and I never have time to cook. Having something I can just reheat is a great timesaver!
